Chi-Squared Test
Просмотров 682 месяца назад
The chi-squared test (χ2) is a statistical test to identify if there is or isn't a connection between two categorical variables. In Ecology we lay this out using two hypotheses: Null hypothesis (H0): Species X and Y distribution is unrelated. Alternative hypothesis (HA): Species X and Y distribution is linked (either positively or negatively). Quadrat sampling provides data for this test. NOTE,...

How to make a QUADRAT
Просмотров 7 тыс.3 года назад
Quadrats are used in ecological studies to get a quick idea of how plants and slow moving animals are distributed in large areas. They are used to take a snap shots (trials) of different areas. You can buy different sizes as I show in the beginning of the this video or you can simply make your own using: * 4 pencils * 4m of string * meter stick * marker How to use this Quadrat in a Line Transec...

A niche is the spacial habit of a species as well as its interactions. In this video we unpack this definition and look at a few examples. We also see what happens if two species have a niche that overlaps.

Zoom Virtual Backgrounds

Here is a brief tutorial about how to create a virtual background in zoom. You can also make your shirt the 'green screen' and project the background just on your shirt. Or for teachers out there, you can make your classroom the background so students see you in your space which can add a nice familiar touch to this beast called 'distance learning.'

8 years later and I used this video for my nano materials research. Thanks for posting.
this video saved my ass ive been trying to do this for a few hours💀 I ❤ PETER STANLEY !THANK YOU SO MUCH!

I have a question, if I want to know the global diversity of my total area, do i I average my Simpson indices from every quadrats ? ex: if i find D=0.62 for my first quadrats and D=0.41 for my second, i can just do the average to know my simpsons indice ?
thanks for your videos, they are really hepfull
can i see the citation or references ill want to use it
aww the volunteer kid is so cute thanks for the video!! i have an exam about this
Can you please explain how you calculated FOV in detail first each objective lens which you have in cheat sheet like 40x=0.45mm ?Thanks in advance
OMG THANK YOU, YOU JUST SAVED MY FINAL GRADE IN SCIENCE!
You can also do this from within a new email. Bypassing notes app.
you look a lot like someone I know
you too
wow none of my profs ever taught me this THANK YOUUU
Glad this was helpful for you √
how to copy paste from mac to iPad?

Thanks peter❤
cheers - glad it helped
cool thanks
I've had 4 different people tried to explain it to me during Environmental Biology Lab at Uni, and I just couldn't understand and wrapped my brain around it. But you've explained it soooo well!! Thanks heaps!
really appreciate hearing that this helped you. thanks
great video! thank you very much
You can’t customize error bars on excel
This (ruclips.net/video/B-zKcSoYMq0/видео.html ) is an older version of excel I used to work with (pre google sheets) and I thought it was quite a bit easier for this type of task. Might be what you are looking for.
Oh wow, that was painful. I think I won't bother now! I got here because I thought picking "standard deviation" would help me - like it would compute the standard deviation of my series and use that for each point, but no. Wouldn't it be nice if they allowed you to just pick another column for error bars values? Did some more research on this - when you use "Standard deviation" it computes STDDEV of the entire series and the plots the error bars for each point centered around the median of the series. The number you enter is a multiplier on STDDEV so 1 for +- 1 standard deviation. This only works for a normally distributed series about a mean. You can't use it for an X-Y plot of a variable and a dependent value. There is a feature of charts where you enter two columns of values for X and Y, highlight those for a scatter plot and select aggregate values on the X-axis. So then if a row has the same X as another row then it can aggregate those values as min, max, mean, median, sum, count. You'd THINK that for that set up then stddev for error bars could do the stddev of all the rows with the same X. But no, it doesn't work like that - it is still series based. So you still need to turn each X-Y point into its own series.
I fully agree with you. It would be nice if Sheets would have picked the brain of the excel folks and adapted their software to make this a one click feature. In the end it's not too bad for the kinds of graphs my students in grade 11 and 12 are working with but I'd have to have larger data sets and try to pull this off. -Thanks for the comment and thoughts on this.
Thank you!
Bbbbut….. my recipient, an attorney’s office, can’t open it without an Apple ID -?? 😱 Any ideas? Anyone?? THANK YOU and God bless any helpers out there! 🤗
Thank youuuuuuuuu <3
KING 👑
I have a scatter plot that I created error bars for and a trend line using standard error (error bar = 1SE) I am prompted to make a second graph with the same data copied into a new graph, but the only difference is that I am told to change the standard error units to 2. (error bar = 2SE). How do I do that in format options, or what does that mean? Thanks!
±1 SD means you are keeping 68% of the data and clipping off the high and low ends evenly. ±2 SD means you are keeping roughly 95% of the data (your bars will be much larger). But I'm sorry to say I don't know why it's prompting you to do this. Hope you managed to solve it. Cheers
Thanks man you're a hero. Legit I was gonna get a zero if u didnt come in very clutch 🙏🙏🙏
Well done not getting that zero and putting time in to find a solution. You've got this!
Misaotra betsaka Peter!!! That is very important for us in our country, help some local people to conserve the environment and our beautiful nature of Madagascar. Thanks also for this video 🙏🙏Auberlin and Soafara
You are welcome and thank Misaotra betsaka to Auberline for the amazing job helping to make this video. I use it with my students and hope that slowly but surely people will connect with briquettes to help Madagascar.
THANK YOU SO MUCH IT WAS HELPFUL IN MY BIOLOGY IA IN IB DP2
Great to hear this. It's exactly what I made the video for (my IB Bio and ESS students doing the IA). Good luck on your upcoming exams!
I came across your video recently and have been using Planboard for a few months now and really like it. I am however still figuring out the best way to set up the classes. I teach three classes two subjects. The content of the classes runs parallel, with only minimal differences between them if one class needs a bit more time. Especially when it comes to Unit planning, those will be the same across the three classes. At the moment I have one class on Planboard set up per subject and class (example: English Class 1; English Class 2; English Class 3). Is it possible to have English as the subject and then add the different classes within the lessons somehow or would you recommend keeping it how I have it now...? Hope that made sense and thanks for any help/ideas/suggestions.
Sorry for a late reply, you probably have a system for this now. But one idea that I'd recommend that has saved me a lot of time over the years is... when you finish making a lesson, click the 'share' icon in the upper right and store it in 'resources'. Make a naming structure for your lesson (1.1xxxxx, 1.2xxxxx) and add a simple tag (like: Bio or Math). Doing this saves all your lessons in one place so in future years you can access everything and quickly build a new course. This has been a life saver especially when I've move schools and haven't taught a course for a few years. Hope that helps.
I am very happy for the help..
What do i do if I dont have an option for "more error bars options"? I dont know what to do
THANK YOU, it seriously saved me

It’s sucks you can’t share directly to an app such as WhatsApp or messenger. They always some stupidity build into simple tasks.
I feel you!
